Shades
Origin & Purpose
Shades are Fae beings that have been irreversibly twisted by human greed, pollution, and disrespect for the natural world. Their corruption stems from humanity's actions, which disrupted the delicate balance of magic and life that Fae are sworn to protect. This imbalance fractured their essence, turning them into dark, vengeful entities.
Following the sacrifice of the King of the Fae, who gave his life to sever Shades from direct interaction with humanity, these corrupted beings developed new, sinister methods to strike back. No longer able to confront humans directly, Shades create dark horrors—terrifying creatures born from the depths of the Fae world—to carry out their vendetta. These horrors are designed to destroy human life and erode the connection between humanity and the natural world.
Characteristics
Shades embody a living darkness, their forms ethereal and constantly shifting like shadowy flames. Their bodies appear semi-incorporeal, made of swirling, toxic energy that exudes an aura of dread. While they retain a trace of their Fae origins, their elegance has turned predatory, with sharp, angular features that evoke fear rather than awe.
Their eyes glow with unnatural light—neon blue, violet, or sickly green—radiating their corrupted power. Tendrils of dark energy extend and coil from their forms, pulsating with a life of their own, as though reaching out to taint everything they touch. Their presence brings an oppressive sense of unease, as if the world itself recoils from their existence.
Behaviour and Nature
Shades are creatures of vengeance and destruction, driven by a singular hatred for humanity. Though not inherently evil, their corruption has consumed them, leaving them focused on retribution for the harm caused to the earth and the Fae.
They are cunning and patient, manipulating others to achieve their goals. Their inability to interact directly with humans has only heightened their creativity, leading to the creation of horrors and the corruption of angels as tools to spread chaos and destruction.
Despite their vengeful nature, Shades remain deeply tied to the Fae world and its magic. They are both its protectors and its destroyers, ensuring that any human who dares to exploit or harm it pays a steep price.
Modern Role
In the modern era, Shades have become a growing threat as humanity’s greed and environmental destruction continue to escalate. They thrive in polluted areas, industrial wastelands, and places steeped in corruption, drawing strength from the imbalance humans create. Through their Sek-Suita agents and dark horrors, they seek to erode the human connection to nature and magic, ultimately aiming to destroy humanity itself.
Though bound by their hatred and corruption, Shades remain a tragic reflection of the consequences of imbalance. Their existence is a warning of what happens when the natural order is pushed too far, and their vengeance is a grim reminder of the Fae world’s enduring connection to the earth.
